The Dundee Funk Fairies
We had a fab time at the Funk Fair in Dundee on Sunday. We met some lovely customers and fellow traders and would like to thank Mel for organising the event.
Here are a few pics from the day (never mind the quality, feel the funk!) with details of most of the traders. Sorry if we missed anyone out, but it was quite busy.
The Rowanjoy collection comprises a magical mixture of vintage and modern fabrics, prints and colours. We fell in love with their 1920s inspired silk flower and lace headbands.
Vanilla Ink Studios had some absolutely stunning jewellery on display, created by the talented Kate Pickering.
It was also lovely to meet these Dundee designers and vintage fashionistas, Sharyn and colleague (sorry, we're hopeless with names), on their first funk fair outing. We just couldn't resist one of their jackets while they couldn't resist one of ours. Good result!
Jody Reekie of Mon Nom is a lady on a mission: "Buying something mass produced is now alien to me, and I hope to inspire others to follow." We love her business ethos and her upcycled goodies which are mainly furniture based - from stripping back to sanding to priming to painting to reupholstering.
We didn't get the chance to say hello to these ladies, but loved their selection of vintage and retro collectables. (If you look closely you may be able to spot Johnny Frocker in the background.)
Rhona Cleland Vintage had an enviable collection of ladies clothing, handbags, hats, shoes and costume jewellery on offer. (Sorry the picture is of such poor quality, blame the iphone photographer!)
Gladrags of Forfar showcased some of their superb vintage clothes and accessories. Simply stunning stock!
Fabulously quirky eyewear from Spex Pistols Vintage Specialists of Dundee.
Gorgeous hats and fascinators from the Sassy Hatter, Brechin.
This Fife-based mother and daughter team were making their debut at the Funk Fair, having recently launched their new business, This Charming Vintage.
We also met another mother and daughter duo who were browsing the fair and bought a few bits from our stall. Alison had already spotted the mum's vintage Hermès scarf across the crowded fair and was green with envy to discover it was one of a collection of over 100! Further chatting revealed Ursula Thompson to be the proprietor of Inverdon Antiques, which specialises in vintage linen, jewellery and decorative items. We feel sure we''ll be paying her a visit at the Abernyte Antiques Centre in the near future.
And finally, here's one of our own rails of frockery! We sold a lot of stock on the day but will be replenishing the rails for our next fair in the new year. In the meantime, our online shop is open for business 24/7!
