The Brechin Advertiser has run a short article about this year’s eco-fashion challenge winner, Janice Stewart. Extra points for anyone spotting the Freudian slip in the text!

We were pleased to be able to personally deliver Janice’s prize as she lives just 12 miles away from Frockery Towers. We are also delighted to report that the coat looks even better in/on the flesh than in the photographs!

Emerald Isle style

Saturday, March 17th, 2012

In celebration of Emerald Isle style, we thought we’d share our latest Mad Men meets Jackie Kennedy vintage look for St Patrick’s Day.

We took this 60s vintage green and gold bow front shift dress with a subtle sparkle running through the fabric and teamed it with

a primrose leather vintage handbag primrose leather vintage 60s handbag

and some super soft primrose leather glovesprimrose leather gloves

We found it hard to decide between these vintage gold shoes

or these Timothy Hitsman Casino Gold classics

This stunning 50s inspired ballerina style prom dress is now available for sale on our website.  In the palest powder blue, with an embellished satin bodice, statement front bow and  multi-layered tulle ballerina length skirt, it is sure to turn heads.

It was recently the centrepiece of a 50s Marilyn Monroe inspired  Dollyfrockers photo shoot, but it is also very Carrie from SATC and even has a Madonna Material Girl vibe to it.

Jean Genius

Thursday, March 15th, 2012

Who else, apart from the Frockers, remembers experiencing blue leg syndrome after sitting in the bath to shrink their Levi’s to fit, then waiting for them to dry on the body? (Well it was the 70s!)

Several decades on, jeans remain a wardrobe staple for people of all ages, shapes and budgets and we have just added several pairs of  Levi 501s to the catalogue in blue, black and brown. You’ll find them listed along with stretch denim and cord flares by Easy Jeans, some 70s high waisted wide leg trousers in green cotton and a pair of white and pink polka dot  Steilmann rockabilly style pants.

We have quite a few more pairs of jeans and trousers in the stock room which haven’t quite made it on to the website yet, including a pair of black Max Mara stretch trousers, DKNY jeans, Firetrap black cords and some white high waisted jeans, so do keep an eye out for them.

And if you need cowboy boots to go with your jeans, we have it on good authority that RARA in Dundee has some genuine American vintage beauties in stock.

Meanwhile you can read how jeans conquered the world in this BBC article. We especially loved the 1920 letter to Levi Strauss reproduce in the article from a customer expressing disappointment that his jeans were falling apart after just three years of daily wear.

“Please find enclosed one pair of your overalls which I am sending you that the head of your fabric department may determine what is wrong. I purchased these from the Brayton Commercial Co of Wickenburg, Arizona, in the early part of 1917 and I have worn them every day except Sunday since that time and for some reason which I wish you would explain they have gone to pieces. I have worn nothing but Levi Strauss overalls for the past 30 years and this pair has not given me the service that I have got from some of your overalls in the past. I know that it is your aim to present a superior article on the market and consider it my duty to help you in any way I can. Please consider this and let me know if the fault is mine.”

And the winner of the Frockery Eco-Fashion Challenge 2012 is…

Saturday, March 10th, 2012

The Frockery’s eco-fashion challenge 2012, which ran throughout February, caused our judging panel more than a few headaches, we don’t mind admitting!  So many stylish outfits were submitted by our talented and creative entrants, it was really tough to choose an overall winner and runner up.

But here, finally, are the results.

The winner is Janice Stewart, who will receive a £100 Frockery voucher. It was felt that this unique coat and matching bag, created by Janice from “old jumpers and mixed fabrics” with outside-sewn seams, fully captured the challenge ethos and exuded the eco-wow factor.

Runner up is Suki Fitzgerald, who will receive a £50 Frockery voucher. Suki’s stunning skirt and waistcoat combo, sourced from second hand and charity shops for a veritable song, really hit the eco-fashion spot in our judges’ opinion.

But we’re not finished yet! Since we found you all so eco-inspirational, we’ve decided to award £20 Frockery vouchers to all of the other stylish ladies (there were no men!) who posted their outfits. To claim your voucher code, please just send us your email address with ‘ecovoucher’ in the subject line.

Thank you to everyone who entered into the spirit of our 2012 challenge and we hope to see you all again next year!

Frocking and Dollyfrocking

Wednesday, March 7th, 2012

We had a lovely time at the St Andrews Vintage Fair last weekend, which was also the first official outing for Dollyfrockers, our exciting new collaborative venture with SC MakeUp Artistry and Gillian Gamble Illustration & Photography.

Since pictures speak louder than words, we thought you’d like to see how Gill Gamble captured the transformation of our student models, Siobhan Dooley and Hannah Wood, into boho princess and 50s prom queen. Hair and make up were by Sandra Cormack and Anna Pillans, with clothes from The Frockery collection.

Siobhan opted for a bohemian look in this turquoise halter neck dress which is currently available on our website. Stunning hair and make up by Sandra and Anna complemented the look perfectly.

Meanwhile Hannah could have graced a 50s front cover of Vogue in this original blue and pink flocked dress with shawl collar and full skirt (from our personal collection), which was shown off to perfection with the upswept hairstyle, complete with flowers from Twigs & Twine and glamorous 50s make up.
