  • The Very Vintage Fashion Fair, St Andrews, 27 April 2013

    April 9, 2013

We are heading to St Andrews for  The Very Vintage Fashion Fair later this month, the first outing we've had for a while as we have been so incredibly busy.

As we've previously mentioned, we have a soft spot for St Andrews and for the ladies who organise the VVFF events and we are regular visitors to the town. Indeed we are likely to be visiting more regularly as the chief frocker's gorgeous godson is due to take up a place at the university this autumn and has promised to do a spot of modelling for us.

So please come along and say hello if you are in the vicinity of Parliament Hall on Saturday 27th April, where the fair will run from 11am until 5pm (£1 entry fee).

We'll be bringing a selection of spring frockery (the snow will surely be gone by then!) and will also be happy to bring any pre-ordered items from our website for payment and collection on the day. Just email us the details in advance to take advantage of this free delivery opportunity.

  • Kaleidoscopic CATWALK 2013

    February 1, 2013

    catwalk 201

One upcoming event not to be missed on the scintillating St Andrews fashion scene is CATWALK 2013 , which is to be held at Venue 1 on Saturday 9th February at 7.30pm. Sponsored by KPMG, all proceeds will go to charity as part of the university's gargantuan RAG week fundraising efforts.

Along with other businesses from the local (and in our case not quite so local) area, The Frockery will be providing vintage pieces for the show in keeping with the event's 'kaleidoscope' theme. Not a lot of people know (we certainly didn't!) that the kaleidoscope was invented by  Sir David Brewster, a former principal of St Andrews University, and it's sure to be a colourful show.

Tickets can be purchased here. Don't miss it!

  • Sitara* 2012: showcasing Asian fusion fashion

    April 17, 2012

The Frockery is proud to be supporting Sitara* 2012 , which takes place this Saturday 21st April in St Andrews.  This vibrant and exciting annual Asian fashion inspired event, organised by the University of St Andrews Asian Society, raises funds for the Ashraya Initiative for Children,  a community outreach project that houses and educates street children.

    sirara 2012

"From the stately tea houses of Japan to the vibrant dances of India, the annual Sitara* fashion show celebrates the beauty of Asian culture, fashion, and art. Now in its fifth year, Sitara* is narrated through story, weaving together Asian fashion, performance and silent acting into an intriguing and exciting show. From the runway to the stage Sitara* will captivate and enthral audience members, taking them on a magic carpet ride through all of Asia!"

Some of our vintage frockery is set to appear in the show, and our Dollyfrockers partner Sandra Cormack is heading up the hair and make up team, with a myriad of  local sponsors supporting the event.

The action itself a closely guarded secret and set to be a big surprise, but the organisers, actors and models have all worked incredibly hard and it is sure to be a wonderful show with more than 200 tickets already sold. Buy yours now for this unmissable event!

  • We'll take Manhattan (and St Andrews)

    February 16, 2012

    We'll Take Manhattan

So who else watched We'll Take Manhattan? We enjoyed it so much we watched it twice!

Young Jean Shrimpton, muse of photographer David Bailey, was to take the fashion world by storm after a boundary-pushing New York photo shoot for Vogue magazine in 1962, becoming the world's first supermodel and an enduring style icon. In the BBC4 dramatisation, Karen Gillan and Aneurin Barnard played their respective roles to perfection as they transported us back to the beginning of an era in which the times were about to change seismically.

Last week, in a similar vein, we decided we would 'take' St Andrews, where talented make up artist Sandra Cormack and photographer Gillian Gamble managed to capture a certain 'Shrimp' spirit in Camilla, one of the models we styled for a Dollyfrockers vintage shoot in advance of the upcoming St Andrews Vintage Fashion Fair. Her coat was strikingly similar to the one pictured above, don't you think? We should of course have remembered the teddy bear!

  • Why look good when you can look fabulous?

The Frockers are delighted to announce a new and exciting collaboration with Sandra Cormack of SC MakeUp Artistry and colleagues to offer vintage style makeover packages at affordable rates in our local Tayside area (and beyond by arrangement).

Having worked with Sandra for some time providing authentic vintage pieces for professional photo shoots throughout Scotland, we realised there were many ladies out there who might appreciate their very own vintage inspired styling session to include hair, make up, clothes and accessories, as well as a photographic record of their new look. So whether you want to release your inner Marilyn or unleash your Joan Collins, we can help!

Why look good when you can look fabulous?

Our wee vintage adventure will launch informally at the St Andrews vintage fair on 3rd March 2012, when Sandra and colleague Anna Pillans from Hair at Home will be on hand to create wonderful vintage hair and make up looks with frockery provided by ourselves and photography by the talented Gillian Gamble.

To whet your appetite, here is the beautiful Juuli once again modelling one of the Frockery's 1940s little black dresses, hair and make up by Sandra Cormack, photographed by Oliver Schneider.
