  • Red hot frockery

    April 27, 2016

red and white spotted rockabilly dress

A City University of New York study has apparently found that wearing red makes women more attractive - but only to men who already fancy them a bit.

Commenting last year in the European Journal of Social Psychology, the study’s principal Steven G. Young said: “Even when women are viewed merely carrying red objects (e.g., laptop computers), they are found more attractive than when holding comparable objects in different colors.”

But don’t get too excited because he also found that: “In two experiments, red enhanced men’s ratings of female attractiveness, but only for faces pre-rated as attractive; red had no influence on perceptions of initially unattractive faces.”

So after a night on the red, red wine, the chief frocker may need to put a bag over her head...

If anyone fancies testing the ‘lady in red’ hypothesis for themselves, here are a few ideas straight from our own Frockery ‘Simply Red’ List. Don’t forget to let us know how you get on!

  • Frockery EcoFashion Challenge 2016: winners announced

    March 16, 2016

    frockery eco-fashion challenge 2016

Sincere apologies for the delay in announcing our Frockery Eco Fashion Challenge winners due to a  combination of crises, including internet connection issues,  two days in court for the chief frocker (fotunately not as the accused!) and several days of London lurgy. Thank you all for your patience!

We had some stunning entries again this year as an amazing array of vintage, hand made and preloved oufits were showcased on our virtual catwalk, along with accompanying stories of creative customisations and bargain buys. There is a tremendous sense of camaraderie among our FrockeryFacebook group members, which always makes the challenge such an enjoyable and fun event.

It was another unenviable task and difficult decision for our esteemed judges - Janice Stewart of Tweed'll Dee, Kirstin Frocker and the absolutely fabulous Patsy A (whose internet connection is very vintage, practically dial-up, darling!) - as there was once again such an outstandingly stylish display of eco-fashion in all its glorious diversity throughout the month.

But finally, here are this year's three worthy winners, who will each receive £50 of frockery of their choice from our catalogue, with an additional £25 for the 'story behind the style'. The images give just a glimpse of the range of eco-frockery that was 'rocked around the clock' during February.

Gail Adams - vintage treasure huntress extraordinaire!

    frockery challenge winner Gail

"So I am out treasure hunting and it is so cold. Out of the wardrobe comes old faithful, 10 years old and originally from M&S. The beret was a freebie from an elderly relatives house clearance."

    frockery challenge winner Gail 2

"A lovely cashmere jacket bought from a charity shop in Brechin for £6.50. A perfect match for my tartan full circle skirt."

Sharan King - vaunting the vintage and hand made!

    frockery challenge winner Sharan

"#outfitoftheday this one is many years old but still loved like the first day I got her via eBay so was second hand #lindybop #vintagelook#vintagefashion #thefrockery"

    frockery challenge winner Sharan2

Breagha Cuinn - queen of quirk, princess of preloved and wild child!

    frockery challenge winner Breagha

"Today's Outfit: Charity Shop jacket (£3), Charity Shop dress (£5), Charity Shop tights (50p) Vintage brooch (£1), Second Hand scarf (Free)!"

    frockery challenge winner Breagha 2

"Today's Outfit: Second hand leopard top (Free), Second Hand snake skin print cardigan (Free) Charity Shop zebra print jeans (£5)"

Story behind the style - Gail's lampshade!

    frockery challenge story winner

"The ultimate in eco fashion. What do you do when you rip your favourite vintage pleated skirt on the car door? Cover a boring lampshade, add matching corsage and a few roadkill feathers and we are good to go."

Congratulations to our winners (please contact us to claim your prizes, ladies!) and a huge thank you to everyone who entered into the spirit of the #frockerychallenge 2016.  Hope to see you all again next year!

  • Skeleton staff next week!

    March 1, 2016

Just a note to advise customers that our dispatch of orders may be slightly delayed next week as the chief frocker will be away in London, leaving a minor frocker in sole charge, whose packing skills are not yet quite as refined as his techie expertise!

All orders placed from Saturday 5th March will be sent at the very latest on Saturday 12th March. Normal service will resume thereafter, with same day or next working day dispatch.

Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.
